(i) Lower energy state to excited(higher) energy state.
(ii) Higher energy state to lower energy state.It is mainly due to the following ways:
(i) d-d transition
(ii) charge transfer
(iii) solid defects
• d-d transition:
Excitation of electron from lower energy state (t2g in case of octahedral and e in case of tetrahedral ) to higher energy state(eg in case of tetrahedral and t2g in case of tetrahedral) is called d-d transition.
